Shymara Dykes
My name is Shymara Dykes and I have 13 years of volleyball experience as a player and 3 years as a coach. Early on, I was drawn to the sport's fierce competitiveness and all-in-team atmosphere. Volleyball gave me a platform to display my work ethic and skill while allowing me to receive lifelong memories and relationships.
During high school, I broke the record for "Most Blocks in a Game" by recording 12 blocks in a single game at Girard High School in Giard, Ohio as a sophomore. After receiving a scholarship to Cincinnati Technical and Community College. I played for 1 year with the Surge helping the team establish a presence in the OCCAC and NJCAA Region XII in 2016.
After I transferred to NCAA DII Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio on an athletic and academic scholarship where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science. During my time at Walsh University, we made 3 Great Midwest Athletic Conference appearances and were the 2018 GMAC East Division Champions.
After 4 years, I still felt like I had more left to give to volleyball and received a final athletic scholarship to play Beach Volleyball at NAIA DI Webber International University in Babson Park, Florida where I graduated with a Master's Degree in Business Management. My partner and I were named "Beach Duo of the Week" after going on a 5-0 win streak to start the season. The team and I finished the Sun Conference runner-ups and placed 4th in the nation at the AVCA Small College Beach Championships in 2021.
I previously coached fall volleyball camp at Palm Beach Recreation Center and I have been a Head Coach for Wellington Volleyball Academy since November 2020. I hope to help athletes experience the amazing rewards and opportunities volleyball has to offer.
